Department of Neuroanesthesia

Neuroanesthesia is a specialized branch of anesthesia focused on the relation between anesthetic agents, neurosurgical procedures, and the critical care considerations involved in managing patients undergoing Neurosurgical procedures.

Neurosurgical procedures are highly delicate and demand close teamwork to maintain adequate blood flow, oxygenation, and appropriate levels of consciousness in patients. Anesthesiologists in the Neuroanesthesia Division play a vital role in managing and monitoring the patient's condition, while also providing effective pain control during and after the surgery.

Key Responsibilities of Neuroanesthesiologists:

Maintaining stable cerebral blood flow and oxygenation

Managing intracranial pressure (ICP)

Ensuring precise control of blood pressure and ventilations

Providing neuroprotection during surgery

Monitoring depth of anesthesia and neurological function (e.g., using EEG, BIS, or evoked potentials)

Managing anesthesia in awake craniotomy procedures
